SCMEP's services include use of up-to-date manufacturing technology including the product development phases of engineering CAD drawings, product rapid prototyping, product design optimization, and product manufacturing and marketing; while at the same time focusing on traditional business development assistance.

In 2005, companies experienced over $88 million in total economic impact, in the categories of cost savings, new and retained sales, capital investment, and payroll impact from new and retained jobs.

SCMEP's expertise that has been assisting SC manufacturers with technical and business support, has been taken to another level, by providing product development and manufacturing assistance to SC's women through the SC Women's Business Center.

Serving SC since 1989
The SCMEP, headquartered in Columbia, was established in 1989 as one of the three original manufacturing extension centers under the Department of Commerce's National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) Manufacturing Extension Partnership (MEP) program. SCMEP is a non-profit, public benefit organization under Section 501(c)(3) of the Internal Revenue Code, with the mission of strengthening the global competitiveness of South Carolina manufacturers, focusing on firms that would otherwise not have access to technology, modernization resources, and solutions.

SCMEP has nine field offices throughout the state, with the home office located in Columbia, SC and a second administrative office located in Greenville. Each of these offices houses field staff, field support staff and management. The field offices are located at Trident Technical College, Central Carolina Technical College, York Technical College, Clemson University and the University of South Carolina.
